Botanica Editions: Sanctuary

Deliberately, we have filled this Sanctuary with artworks and textiles of established and emerging Kimberley artisans who have become Botanica Editions friends over the years, along with a few pieces of our private collection from travels around the world.

The Botanica Editions curation has been themed with a strong connection to nature, country and community, we would love to help you discover your collection of Kimberley textiles and art to fill the walls and shelves of your own home.

Eunice Yu, Managing Director of Nagula Jarndu, has been one of the kindest souls sharing the Kimberly Six Seasons stories that have helped build Botanica Editions small group Immersion Retreats.
When you visit Nagula Jarndu (Saltwater woman), the Indigenous-governed not-for-profit community art space, you will find a generous group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women sharing their stories from Country and Dreaming on hand-printed textiles and paper, soaps, and soy wax candles.

Kimberley born artisan Lily Chin creates one-of-a-kind wearable art using Kimberley botanicals and bush dyes. Every leaf within the natural dye is hand picked Lily, creating bush poetry with each unique piece.
Lily loves sharing the background of each individual Bush Medicine piece. You will find her at the Courthouse Markets each weekend or contact her directly to explore Lily Chin’s beautiful world of seasonal textile art.

Deeply committed to his craft and a true nature oracle, Tom Montgomery is a kind and generous soul who ‘reference gathers’ from remote areas of the Kimberley.
It is worth visiting the Broome Courthouse Markets on Saturday mornings to meet Tom as he sketches and immerses in the creative process of live painting.

During a whirlwind visit to Broome in 2022 we were captivated by the gentle and soothing energy of Xiaoli Wang Artist, along with her haunting sketches capturing the rhythmic cycles of seasons, elements and of course the ever expressive moon and her staircase in Broome.
Serendipitously, Xiaoli lived at [now] Botanica Editions: Sanctuary when she first arrived in Broome, imbedding her art within the fabric of this place.

A beautiful, inclusive group of women with a great sense of humor having a lot of fun sharing stories through their art, the Bidyadanga Art Community (200km south of Broome) allowed us to become part of their family during the season of 2010.
The healing art of this group of emerging Indigenous artists welcomed guests to our First Edition, The Willow House for many years and you can connect with the Bidyadanga Artists via the Short St. Gallery or Jacky Cheng.

Felicity Brown (Flic) creates unique, one-off headwear for rural, regional and remote women who have a special event to attend, and every day sun (and n.y. runway) hats for the rest of us to wear.
Originally self-taught when working on remote outback cattle and sheep stations, in 2014 she was the first Australian Milliner to be invited to New York Fashion week, the subject of an international prizewinning documentary MadHATtan, and exhibits in London.
Flic’s energy and positivity is infectious and you are likely to meet her at the Courthouse Markets if your visit is out of racing season.
We will be adding a NewYork Runnway - ‘Flic Pinch Hat’ and true Australian ‘Kimberley Hat’ to our everyday collection.
